Holy Smokes! You're almost half way through your first week, and we hope that you're enjoying yourself! Check out this Day 3 email, and as always if you have questions, talk to your PM!
How do projects get sold around here anyways?
We're glad you asked! Bitwise Tech Consulting operates several departments that are responsible for landing new deals, and giving us awesome stuff to work on. The whole process starts with Sales. Our Sales team is out there doing everything they can to bring deals back to us. Once they've identified interesting projects, the details get passed to our pricing team (lead by Kristy Points). It's their job to architect the project from a conceptual standpoint, and put a price to it. This generates a scope of work, which is sent to the client in the form of a contract to sign. From there our projects go through a design and prototype phase, and finally to dev to build.
While this is a very high level look at the process we're always tweaking and refining to make sure that the project can get off the ground smoothly.
Take a break, why don't ya?
There are exactly zero people that work here that assume you're a machine, capable of working endless hours with no rest or breaks. The working hours at BWTC can be flexible and tailored to when you're most productive, with a few caveats. Please discuss this with your manager so everyone is on the same page about when you would be expected to be working. Generally work hours are 9am - 5pm, but if you find you're far more productive from 9pm - 3am, nobody is going to expect to see you at 9am. That being said, we do expect attendance at meetings related to your projects, even if they are early, and even if you stayed up too late last night. Same goes for email and Slack correspondence. Finally, that kind of autonomy is usually earned, and is ultimately for you and your Project Manager to discuss (what a great conversation topic for your 1:1s).
Level Up, and share the knowledge!
Bitwise Tech Consulting, at its core, was founded on principles of mentorship, knowledge sharing, and deliberately contributing to the success of someone else. We expect that all team members, from our most junior to our most senior, to participate in knowledge sharing and mentorship opportunities as they arise. We all have something we can teach someone else, and the only way we get better is by making sure we are taking the time to make someone else better. That being said, we do have some resources for you to help towards that end!
Day 3 Checklist
Here is a list of things to try and get done today. Anything your PM asks of you should take priority, of course, but we intentionally try and keep the workload light in the first few weeks so that you can get acclimated.
