We hope your first day was a success, and that Day 2 shapes up the same! How are you feeling today? Was yesterday fun, scary, exciting, or confusing? If the answer was any or all of the above, then I have good news for you... that's perfectly normal. We said it yesterday and we'll say it again, we're excited that you're here!
Now, we know it's been a day, and you probably have the lay of the land all mapped out, know what project you're going to be working on, and have all the answers you need, right? Oh, you don't? We'll let's start there!
1:1s
All employees that work for Bitwise receive personal 1:1 time every week. As a dev, you'll be doing your 1:1s with your Project Manager. Remember, you will have a dedicated Project Manager that should be your one stop shop for any and all questions about your work (Note: Your PM may not be overseeing the project you're working on at any given time, but will remain your PM in terms of reporting). If this hasn't already been brought up, reach out to your PM right now and ask about setting up time for your 1:1. The 1:1 time is kind of a sacred thing here, and it's your time to have some undivided attention from your PM. Bring any and all questions to this meeting and find the answers you seek!
Calendar Etiquette
We are GSuite users, and as such use Google Calendar for scheduling time with people. You may be invited to meetings for your projects as well as all company meetings like the Bitwise Team Remote Weekly. Calendar invites will usually have everything you need to know about where to show up and when, and if it's a remote / video call, the call in details.
Please respond to calendar invites.
Yes / No / Maybe are all acceptable responses, but a non-response leaves people wondering if you're showing up or not.
He/She/They wore what to the meeting???
Bitwise, and by association BWTC, is a pretty relaxed kinda place. Most days you'll find our CEO in a hoodie, Bitwise Bruce in a t-shirt, and some team member walking around in a Dinosaur costume (not a joke, see below). For the most part, casual is the name of the game. There may be times when we ask for a little extra effort (client meetings, important out-of-town visitors), but those should be few and far between. Be comfy!
Day 2 Checklist
Here is a list of things to try and get done today. If you have already been assigned a PM, anything your PM asks of you should take priority, of course. However, we intentionally try and keep the workload light in the first few weeks so that you can get acclimated to your daily routine.
